Family Tree Magazine's 101 Best Websites for Genealogy in 2016

101BESTwebsites 2016Each year Family Tree Magazine selects the best genealogy websites and publishes the list in their magazine and online. This year they have decided, given this is the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek series, to as they put it "boldly go where no genealogist has gone before. We're jettisoning old, outdated sites . . . seeking out new frontiers in online genealogy, sites not afraid to innovate at warp speed." As a result, many older sites were replaced with new one. Our New RootsMagic Group Had Its First Meeting [Updated]

RootsMagic 7Our new RootsMagic Special Interest Group held its first meeting Saturday August 20 at the West Oaks Library and Genealogy Center. There were 17 in attendance. We met in the computer classroom and it was a little crowded but we all managed to fit. Betty Jo covered some basics on using RootsMagic and there was also a time to answer the groups questions.

It was agreed on that we would continue to meet at West Oaks and that future meetings would be held at 1:30 pm on the 1st Thursday of each month (unless there was a conflict). The next meeting will be September 1 at 1:30 pm.

New Location for Our Regular Evening Meetings Starting September 8th

Your Board is pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement tonight (Aug. 16) with the LDS Church the meets on South Bumby Avenue to hold our regular evening meeting there starting September 8th. The church is located about 3 miles south of SR-408 (East-West Expressway) on S. Bumby Ave. and 1.5 miles east of S. Orange Ave. on Gatlin Ave. The facilities have recently been renovated and there are plenty of classrooms if needed. Parking is on the southwest corner of the building next to the room we will be meeting in (see map and aerial below).  This will be our regular evening meeting location until renovations are completed at the Family History Center on Par St.
