Ancestry Revealed Needs You!

The Ancestry Revealed is a community service program of the Central Florida Genealogical Society and is entering it's 5th year. Volunteers help seniors to complete a 4 generation pedigree chart along with a family group sheet, either in their independent or assisted living facility or at various churches and public venues. They are also given various documents that are found along the way such as census records, marriage certificates, ship manifest, naturalization papers etc. All this info is to be passed down to their children and grandchildren. The program operates from September through May each year.

Live workshop at The Mayflower Retirement Community in Winter Park

We need more volunteers right now, as many have had to leave the program the past two years due to moving out of the area, sickness, care-giving etc. and we are down to a skeleton crew. But I am also looking ahead to our next September season. So whether you are available now or not for several months please do consider joining the team.If you are researching your own family you already know how to complete a pedigree chart. Training is available if needed and/or being paired up with a seasoned volunteer during live sessions. Workshops are held on two Wednesday’s for each facility, one week apart from each other. Two time slot choices are offered 10:00 am to 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. We arrive 30 minutes ahead of time to set up our laptops and get connected to Wi-Fi.  A laptop or tablet is needed (occasionally we have an extra laptop if you don't happen to have one). You do not have to commit to doing every workshop, you can pick and choose whatever schedule works for you.  Occasionally we carpool, mostly due to limited parking space.

The seniors we have helped have been thrilled beyond expectation at the results and the volunteers have been as thrilled as well. Some volunteers will attest to the fact that their research skills have been greatly expanded due to this program. So even if you haven’t been doing genealogy for a long time, this program can help you advance and hone your skills.
